“Kitchens are so expensive Mate..…. Why are kitchens so expensive?” singer Ed Sheeran was thinking out loud during his recent Desert Island Discs interview on BBC Radio 4.
When questioned on the show about how he likes to spend his money, Ed revealed that he had recently bought a new kitchen for his parents but admitted that his generous gift had cost a lot more than he was expecting!
“I bought my parents a kitchen. Kitchens are so expensive, mate. Why are kitchens that expensive?”
Ed is one of the world’s biggest artists and is said to be worth over £50 million. So, if Mr Sheeran winces at the price of a new kitchen, the average UK homeowner could find that their dream kitchen quickly becomes their wallets worst nightmare.
In the 2017 Kitchen Trend Report from Houzz, the average cost of a UK kitchen renovation is reported between £10,000 – £25,000. The study shows that 22% of homeowners will spend an eye-watering £25,000 – £49,000 on their new kitchen, and 10% will spend well over £50,000 – that’s the price of 7,150 Ed Sheeran CD’s!
